Attendance
Hazelwick has always recognised the importance of good attendance and has in place long-established and effective systems to monitor absence, address particular problems and recognise excellence. We have always valued the support we have received from parents over matters of attendance and punctuality and recognise the fact that most children attend school every day. However, please would all parents bear in mind the following:
- Please avoid taking your child away on holiday during the course of the school term.
- Wherever possible, fix medical appointments for outside school time, otherwise a written request to the Head of Year must be made in advance.
- Ensure that your child is in school on time to register with his/her form teacher. This effectively means that they will need to be on the school site by 8.25am.
Absence
If your child is unable to attend school due to illness or some other unavoidable reason, please ring the school reception on 01293 403344 at the earliest possible time on the first day of absence. When they return please confirm the details of the absence in a letter to your child’s form teacher.
Should you have reason to believe that your son/daughter is not in school when they should be, please ring the school to discuss the situation with the Head of Year. Incidents of truancy and school refusal are dealt with by the Heads of Year and they will always appreciate your co-operation at such times.
The maximum holiday normally allowable as an authorised absence in any calendar year is for a period of not longer than two weeks. Families who insist on longer, unauthorised periods of absence for their children run the risk of losing a place for them at Hazelwick.
Timings of the School Day
The school runs on a 2 week cycle with registration at 8.30am (pupils should aim to be on the school site by 8.20am) followed by assembly and/or 'form time'. Pupils then attend five one-hour lessons, with 5 minutes of 'change-over' time between each. The school day ends at 3.35pm, apart from the last day of term which finishes at the earlier time of 12.25pm.
