Welcome to Hazelwick School
Hazelwick is a large, highly successful Trust School on a spacious and leafy campus in north-east Crawley, with approximately 1,500 pupils in Years 7-11 and an additional 350 students in the 6th form. As an early part of the Government’s Specialist Schools programme, Hazelwick was designated in 1998 as a Specialist School in Technology, so becoming the first Specialist School in Crawley. In 2005, as a result of its continuous high level of attainment, it was invited to take on an additional specialism which the school designated as Humanities in order to widen the impact of being a Specialist School across much more of the curriculum. As part of this second specialism, the Government formally recognised Hazelwick as a High-Performing School, being amongst the top 10% of the country’s highest performing Local Authority schools. In a recent Ofsted inspection the school was judged 'Outstanding' - the highest category possible and one awarded to fewer than 10% of all schools nationally.
In grading the school as 'Outstanding', the Ofsted Inspection Team found that, "An extremely positive ethos, based on helping all students do their best, both academically and socially, permeates the school...Students' outstanding achievement is due to consistently good teaching and the excellent care and support they receive throughout the school." (Ofsted, December 2008)
The school is extremely serious in its belief that it should provide for each and every one of its pupils and students, irrespective of their ability or background, a distinctively rich and memorable education that matches the very highest international standards. Young people have only one opportunity in their lives to benefit from secondary education and the school is committed to doing everything in its power to make this opportunity both an educational and a personal success.
Whilst such an education certainly focuses on the achievement of the best possible academic standards, it also provides a rich diversity of experiences to enable individual pupils not only to become responsible and positive members of society but also to explore the range and depth of their own potential in order to discover the vast opportunities that the world has to offer them as a reward for their effort and curiosity.
We believe that all young people have far greater potential than is often realised and that we must mobilise all the resources of the school in order for them to fulfil this. We are immensely proud of the many and diverse achievements of our pupils and students.
